Artist: Aire-belle à Puget-sur Argens
Rare 1900 vase with iridescent thistle decoration by the Aire-belle factory in Puget-sur-Argens, formerly of Fréjus.

A typical example of the Art Nouveau-style iridescent ceramic pieces pioneered by the Massier brothers in Vallauris, this rare manufacturer produced very few pieces, but the quality of its artistic works is impressive. This small tile and brick factory near Fréjus decided to open an artistic department where, it seems, only three workers were dedicated to producing vases, bowls, and pitchers, as well as decorative plates and planters.
Beautiful iridescence and delicate decoration featuring three thistles on a rounded, swirled vase. The use of metal oxides is perfectly mastered here; the colors are rich and varied.

In perfect condition with not a single chip, 16 cm tall, signed “Aire-Belle France” on the base, circa 1890–1900.

A very fine collector’s piece, featuring a rare signature and, moreover, exceptionally well executed.
