Restoration-era Armchair
Restoration-era Armchair, circa 1820–1830
An elegant Restoration-era armchair made of finely carved wood, featuring the understated design characteristic of the 1820s and 1830s. The chair rests on four tapered, fluted legs, with the scroll-shaped armrests supported by fluted baluster-style brackets. The connecting blocks are adorned with carved rosettes.
At the end of the 19th century, the armchair underwent a restoration of its finish, with the decoration re-lacquered in ivory tones and partial gilding highlighting the carvings—a testament to the era’s taste for bringing antique seating back into fashion.
It is upholstered in petit point tapestry featuring a scattered pattern of floral medallions on a deep red background—a high-quality decorative piece that harmonizes perfectly with the chair’s silhouette. The upholstery is in good condition for its age.
The proportions are harmonious, resulting in an armchair that is as decorative as it is comfortable—ideal for both classic and contemporary interiors.
