Memento Skull—a Decorative Piece For Mortuaries—italy, Early 1900s
Until the early decades of the 20th century, it was customary to decorate mortuary chambers with “memento mori” elements, a practice that has since disappeared. This skull, crowned with a wreath, is one of the last remaining examples of this custom. Made of alloy, it was hung on the walls with a small candle inside. In perfect condition, length 32 cm. Italy, first half of the 1900s.
