Large Ottoman Islamic Embroidered Silk Hanging – Sultan Abdulhamid II Period

Large Ottoman hanging in green velvet, richly embroidered with metallic threads. It is dedicated to Bab al-Salam ("Gate of Peace"), one of the gates of the Great Mosque of Mecca. It bears the imperial tughra of Sultan Abdulhamid II (1876–1909), executed in Divani calligraphy, together with numerous Qur'anic inscriptions. A remarkable example of late 19th-century Ottoman textile art.
