Louis XVI-style Clock In White Marble And Gilded Bronze - Napoleon III
A charming Louis XVI-style mantel clock in white marble and finely chased and gilded bronze, dating from the Napoleon III era.
This piece stands out for the quality of its craftsmanship and the elegance of its proportions. At 30 cm tall, this is a compact clock that is particularly easy to incorporate into any interior while retaining the decorative richness of the finest 19th-century Parisian pieces.
The domed enamel dial is signed “Henri Voisin” and is protected by its original domed glass. On the back, the movement is preserved behind its original glass pane, a detail that is often missing on this type of pendulum clock. The movement is in working order.
The name Henri Voisin likely refers to the clockmaker or retailer who sold this clock. During the Second Empire, it was common for major bronze casters to supply their models to various clockmakers, who would then sign them with their own names. In particular, we have had the opportunity to own exactly this same model signed by Denière, a famous Parisian bronze casters. This matching model confirms that it is a high-quality piece, distributed by several major Parisian houses.
The decoration is particularly refined: garlands of flowers, bunches of grapes, knotted ribbons, vine leaves, and foliage enliven the piece with great finesse. The crown, consisting of a quiver, an arrow, and a bouquet of flowers, is rendered with delicate chiseling and gilding that retains its original luster.
The condition is remarkable. The gilding is very well preserved, the white marble shows no chips or restoration, and both original glass panes are present. The piece as a whole offers a particularly appealing appearance.
This clock combines all the sought-after qualities: an elegant design, high-quality Parisian craftsmanship, exceptional condition, and a clockmaker’s signature. A decorative piece that is as refined as it is timeless.
