Mid-17th Century Gilded Wood Sculpture Of A Young Man
Refined and unique sculpture, crafted from carved wood
and gilded with pure gold leaf. It depicts a running youth holding a blown
Murano glass cornucopia, which ends in three arms, each holding a candle holder
at its end. The sculpture sits on a white Carrara marble base, finely carved
with geometric moldings. Extremely refined, the realistic rendering of the
details is remarkable. The young man is depicted bare-chested, with a robe
covering his stomach and part of his legs. His face, framed by wavy hair,
features delicate features and a serene gaze. A distinctive feature is the
movement, conveyed by the openness and position of his legs, which lend the
work its uniqueness. This is a sculpture of great taste and refinement, capable
of lending a touch of class and antiquity to any space. Roman manufacture,
Baroque period, around the mid-17th century.
