Provençal Knife Block Or Knife Holder Made Of Walnut
CHARMING PROVENÇAL KNIFE BLOCK IN CARVED WALNUT, LOUIS XVI STYLE, FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
A charming Provençal cutlery holder made of solid walnut, in the Louis XVI style, dating from the first half of the 19th century.
Designed to hold six knives or spoons, this tabletop piece combines elegance and functionality. Its slender silhouette is crowned by a remarkable openwork heart-shaped pediment, adorned with a delicate flaming quiver—a symbol of Love—framed by stylized laurel leaves and finely carved volutes inspired by the Louis XVI decorative repertoire.
The six compartments hold cutlery with turned handles, while the lower section features a small drawer for storing small accessories. The drawer’s front is adorned with an elegant floral motif carved in low relief. Its yellow glass pull knob is an antique replacement that blends harmoniously with the piece.
This charming piece features a beautiful antique patina on the waxed walnut and is in excellent condition. Both decorative and practical, it will naturally find its place in a characterful kitchen, a dining room, or a collection of Provençal folk art.
