Silver "railroad Car" Double-clip Brooch, Circa 1960

A rare and original double-clip brooch made of 925‰ silver, designed as a modular piece of jewelry that forms a unique ensemble. The two clips, which can be worn separately or joined together, recreate the stylized silhouette of a railroad car, transforming the piece into a true narrative micro-sculpture. The interior of the car houses a three-dimensional scene populated by tiny passengers, hand-sculpted and delicately hand-painted. Through the windows, several figures appear to be waving, lending the piece a subtle theatrical effect.
Crafted in satin-finished silver, with remarkable openwork and the plaque’s three-dimensional effect, the brooch is signed by the silversmith G. Lantz and hallmarked with his LANTZ workshop mark, the 925 fineness mark, and an X10 mark (likely a model, serial, or edition number).
The quality of craftsmanship and the originality of its design evoke the artist-jewelry production of Central Europe from the 1960 to the 1970, when jewelry transcended its mereornamental function to become a true work of miniature art. Very good overall condition. The polychrome figurines show only very slight signs of wear and age, perfectly consistent with the brooch’s age and use, without detracting from the remarkable aesthetic quality of the piece as a whole.
