Mid-century Italian Rosewood Dry Bar By Vittorio Dassi, 1960s
Artist: Vittorio Dassi
This elegant piece of furniture can serve as a bar cabinet (its original function) or, alternatively,
as a desk or bookcase.
These two parts of the cabinet are slightly suspended from the two gently flared side panels.
The upper part of the bar also follows this line, being slightly flared itself, while the lower part is straight,
and the front doors are very slightly curved.
A uniform rosewood veneer adorns the piece, while the solid rosewood frame sections are slightly
darker.
The slanted section of the bar features an antique scene of Venice on its front, depicting bustling activity in the harbor
with a view of the city’s skyline.
This depiction is a photograph that has also been applied as a veneer.
The interior of the cabinet is made of light sycamore wood, with a mirrored base
and a compartment with curved glass.
Polished brass hardware—such as the side hinges and knobs, as well as the ornate keys—
complete the look.
The piece has been fully restored and finished with a matte satin varnish.
This means the pores are open, and the surface has a very subtle sheen—extremely elegant and understated—
which beautifully highlights the piece.
