An ancient sculpture made entirely of terracotta, depicting an elderly man in a half-length portrait, dressed in an ancient-style tunic. The expression of the figure, as well as the deep folds of the tunic, are skillfully rendered by the artist’s hand, which leaves nothing to idealistic interpretations and faithfully conveys the visual reality of a person in the twilight of his years, his face marked by the inexorable passage of time. The drapery possesses a strong sculptural quality, thanks to the pronounced chiaroscuro effects visible under raking light. The bust of the elderly man rests at its base on a circular pedestal, lending the entire piece a measured sense of dynamism. Material: Terracotta.
