Louis XVI Lyre Chair, 18th Century, In The Style Of Georges Jacob (1739–1814), Lacquered Wood With A Patina Finish
A chair from the 1780s with a flat, carved backrest decorated with a beautiful lyre; the horseshoe-shaped seat is supported by fluted legs.
The carving, as well as the intricate detail of the rosettes formed by interlocking blocks, reminds me of the famous cabinetmaker Georges Jacob (1739–1814); our example is unmarked.
The fabric and upholstery need to be redone; there is a slight amount of play in the back.
A chair with a similar décoration is visible at the castel of Vaux-le-Vicomte.
