Historical Scenes Depicting Aviation, A Pair Of Gouaches
A charming pair of fan-shaped gouaches: one titled “The Blériot Airplane,” depicting Blériot’s aircraft flying over the English Channel on July 25, 1909, and the other titled “Paris, Statue of Henry IV,” a tribute to the first air shows. It’s worth noting that in this gouache, the airplane is piloted by two women—perhaps a reference to the first airplane designed by Santos Dumont, known as “La Demoiselle.”
Both gouaches are signed: G. Cardinal.
