Seal Matrix Of The Lordship Of Buisseret, France, Circa 1580–1630

A very beautiful and rare bronze (or heavily patinated brass) seal die, preserved in remarkable condition. The engraved inscription reads: “S. IACOMES. BVISSERET,” meaning Sigillum Jacomes Buisseret (“Seal of Jacques Buisseret”), identifying the owner of this die. The heraldic shield, surmounted by a crested helmet and framed by ornate lambrequins, is engraved with great finesse.

The handle consists of a fold-down half-moon plate, pierced with a suspension hole and mounted on a fully functional hinge—a characteristic feature of seal matrices from the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

The impression made in wax is remarkably clear, reflecting deep engraving and very limited wear. This die is a fine example of sigillography, presenting heraldic, historical, and genealogical interest.
