Damascene Bed From The Middle East With Inlays – Bone And Mother-of-pearl Mosaic
Stunning inlaid bed frame in Middle Eastern/Damascene style – Bone and mother-of-pearl mosaic marquetry
An exceptional piece of craftsmanship: wood mosaic marquetry with geometric motifs inspired by Islamic art
Acquire a spectacular piece of craftsmanship with this complete and richly ornamented headboard in the Syrian (Damascene) style. The set consists of three main panels forming a triptych and two freestanding side columns; the entire piece is covered with a geometric mosaic marquetry of breathtaking finesse and beauty.
Condition: Pre-owned. As shown in the photos, the mosaic and inlay are in remarkable condition, with very precise assembly. There are slight signs of wear due to age, notably a small mark or scratch on the wooden spacer post located on the far left (visible in detail in the high-resolution photos).
Craftsmanship and Materials:
Marquetry Technique: Bone and mother-of-pearl tesserae, cut and set by hand, are perfectly embedded in a structure of walnut and fruitwood.
Geometric motifs: The central panel features a complex, continuous pattern of geometric polygonal stars. The triptych is framed by traditional openwork borders and secondary square mosaic motifs.
This headboard dates from the mid-20th century (late Art Deco period).
