Oil On Canvas, Signed Kvapil, “church In The Basque Country”
Artist: Charles Kvapil (1884/1957)
Original oil on canvas with historical restorations.
Charles Kvapil is a Belgian painter of the School of Paris; after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he exhibited at the Salon in that city in 1908, in Munich in 1911, and at the Brussels Triennial in 1914, before making his mark at the Salon des Indépendants in 1920. In 1923, his work was exhibited at Marcel Bernheim’s gallery, followed by shows in Geneva, London, and New York. Kvapil frequented the artists’ circles of Montparnasse in the shadow of the legendary figures of the era and had his studio in the Hameau des Artistes in Montmartre. This relative discretion did not prevent him from producing a rich and powerful body of work.
Dimensions: canvas 60.5 x 50.5 cm / with frame 69.5 x 59.5 cm
