Exquisite rectangular polychrome majolica plaque. The plaque, likely for devotional purposes, depicts the Virgin Mary with her hands clasped, a veil, and a flowing dress. The Virgin is shown crushing the serpent, a symbol of original sin. The painted and enameled guilloche frame is also unique, lending further refinement to the overall effect. Made in Tuscany by the famous Montelupo ceramics workshop, late 17th century.
