Dated 1840. Icon Framed In Gilded Silver. Russian Hallmark
A striking icon composed of four parts, all depicting the presentation of the infant Jesus,
It is framed by delicate and elegant gilded silverwork in the Rococo style, bearing Russian hallmarks and, it appears, dated 1840.
On the back, a handwritten text appears on a silver plate that has not yet been translated.
A thick, old varnish covers the painting; I chose not to attempt to remove it in order to make the object more legible.
It has an undeniable presence with this lovely silver frame.
