Antique Pair Of Japanese Imari Porcelain Trumpet Vases, Early 18th Century Edo Period

A fine pair of Japanese Imari porcelain vases dating from the early eighteenth century, circa 1720–1750, during the Edo period.

Of elegant trumpet form with gently flared rims, the vases are decorated in the classic Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron red and gilt highlights. The decoration is arranged in large shaped reserves containing stylised chrysanthemums and flowering plants, framed by bold cobalt blue scrollwork and delicate floral sprays.

The spacious composition, refined proportions and confident hand-painted decoration are characteristic of early Edo-period Imari porcelain produced in the Arita kilns. The restrained use of colour and gilding, together with the strong blue cartouches and floral motifs, place these vases firmly within the tradition of eighteenth-century Japanese export and domestic wares.

A particularly attractive and increasingly scarce pair, retaining excellent decorative appeal and displaying beautifully from every angle.

Height: 26.5 cm.

Good condition with age-related wear and minor firing imperfections consistent with period manufacture.
