Antique Billiard Or Snooker Table With Ornate Decoration

This imposing decorative billiards/snooker table, measuring 3.66 m x 1.83 m (12 feet x 6 feet), is crafted from Cuban mahogany and features exquisite carvings on the frame, legs, and rails.

Crafted by John Thurston in 1894 for a client in Guildford, Surrey, this table is a testament to exceptional craftsmanship, both in the woodwork and the construction.

We have a copy of the original invoice, which attests to its Louis XVI style. Each carved leg is adorned with a decorative panel, replicated on the edges of the rails in the form of a small carved boss. A motif of ovals and darts runs along the top and bottom of the table.

The mahogany rails feature a section of slate integrated into their inner edge, which gives them great sturdiness and improves the ball’s responsiveness, this table is simply magnificent.

The side and end rails are adorned with seashells and garlands, and the carving is of exceptional quality.
