Billiard Table Or Snooker Gillows Circa 1820
Artist: Gillows
An extremely elegant mahogany billiard table typical of Gillows craftsmanship circa 1820. Standing on slender reed legs with rectangular plates to conceal the frame bolts, this table is a very rare six legged design and only a handle remains intact. The frame is veneered in a beautiful rich Cuban mahogany and features stunning figures, the sober decoration of the turned bosses on the cushions is in harmony with the sublime understated design. The wood is an extremely good cut with an impressive subframe incorporating a myriad of carriers. Brass brackets along the side of the table cover the handcrafted bolts underneath, while brass pocket plates hold the handcrafted cotton nets. We also decided to take some pictures of the table partially set up just to illustrate how beautiful the subframe is, it's a work of art in itself.
