Marble Sculpture Depicting The Head Of A Young Woman - Second Half Of The 19th Century
A Carrara marble sculpture depicting the head of a young woman from the second half of the 19th century. This Hellenistic-style sculpture depicts the face of a young girl, with harmonious and symmetrical features inspired by Greek statuary of the Classical period. Her hair is gathered inside a sakkos, a typical fabric used in ancient Greece, with a few curly locks falling on either side of her face. The sculpture was carved from Carrara statuary marble, characterized by grayish veins that run across the young woman’s face and neck.
