Alfred De Dreux exhibited at the Paris Salon beginning in 1831. After spending time in England—where he followed King Louis-Philippe into exile between 1848 and 1852 and painted portraits for the English aristocracy—he returned to Paris and set up his studio at 26 rue de Douai in Paris’s 9th arrondissement. There, he continued to paint equestrian portraits and hunting scenes among the French aristocracy and in the entourage of Emperor Napoleon III.
