Cardeilhac, 1819–1838: 11 Dessert Knives In Vermeil Silver And Mother-of-pearl

From the first half of the 19th century by Maison Cardeilhac, a charming set of 11 fruit and dessert knives with vermeil blades and ferrules and mother-of-pearl handles. The capital-shaped ferrules are adorned with pearls at the base and feature a design of fine fluting, gadroons, and heart-shaped motifs.

The gold, polished to a high sheen on the raised areas and finished with an “amati” patina in the recesses, perfectly highlights the decoration on each ferrule.

The mother-of-pearl displays a multitude of iridescent reflections that shift between white, gray, green, and pink... depending on the light.

Restoration Era – Charles X.

Each blade bears the “vieillard” hallmarks with a head facing right, the number 1 on the right (1st Paris fineness standard), and a circular head of Ceres facing left (Paris gross guarantee hallmark): 1819–1838 + the hallmark of the master silversmith “Cardeilhac.”

Good condition. The knives are very sturdy. Micro-scratches and slight signs of wear, stains. A small chip at the end of one handle, and tiny hair-like imperfections on another handle—neither of which affects the knife’s sturdiness (see photos).
