Fritz Uphoff (1890, Witten – 1966, Worpswede), Standing Nude, ca. 1930, drawingin chalk on paper covered with paint, 44.5 cm x 24.8 cm (dimensions ofthe sheet), mounted on thin cardboard, signed “Fritz Uphoff” lower left.
- wavy atthe corners and slightly stained due to mounting
The body, drawn with precise contours, becomes more defined above the knees and fadesbeyond the shoulders. Thus, the slightly arched body stands out ina state of tension that gives this nude its erotic effect. The depiction isfully in line with a new culture of the nude body and an ode toyouth that resonates in Art Nouveau. The chromatic structure that envelopsthe entire work evokes a sense of soft physicality and lends thedepiction a sensual vibrato.
