This octagonal medal features on its obverse a haloed bust of Christ wearing the crown of thorns, in profile facing right.Around the edge: "SALVATOR · MVNDI · SALVA · NOS" (Savior of the World, save us).
Below the bust, the Roman she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, the mark of the Italian medalist Ottone Hamerani (1694-1761).
On the reverse, a haloed bust of the Virgin Mary, in profile facing right. Around the edge: "MATER ·
SALVATORIS · ORA · PR(O) · N(OBIS)" (Mother of the Savior, pray for us).
Very good condition, light patina.
