Two gouaches on rice paper depicting a couple of dignitaries intheir apartment, each with a servant presenting them with a pipe used forsmoking opium. The painting, executed in fine lines, is refined and richly detailed.The paintings areprotected by glass, which creates reflections and causes the colors to appearsubdued in some photos.Another painting visible in the last photos depicts an elderly man waitingfor his opium pipe as well and included free of charge with the couple (the painting was likely doneby the same artist but is slightly different in terms of the floor and walls…).
