The painting depicts an elaborate still life of fruit and game, enlivened by the vibrant presence of two splendid roosters and a group of small birds.
It is one of the most characteristic compositions by the Milanese master Angelo Maria Crivelli, known as “il Crivellone,” who excelled at depicting birds and game among fruits and vegetables.
His talents as an “animal painter” are clearly evident in this canvas, particularly in the rendering of the plumage and, above all, in the unsurpassed, lively gazes of the two roosters, which characterize much of his work.
The work is in excellent condition, having been professionally re-stretched, and is complete with an important antique gilded frame.
