Pair Of Large Montparnasse Frames, Carved Whitewashed Wood, 1930s, Paris School, Art Deco, Louis XV Style
A rare pair of large Montparnasse frames from around 1930, made of carved and limed wood.
They are in the Louis XV style, featuring rich carved decorations with scroll, shell, and foliage motifs.
The original patina, using Meudon white, is characteristic of this style sought after by artists of the First School of Paris.
The shades of white lead, gray, and beige, along with the raw and deliberately weathered appearance, stood in contrast to the gold-leaf frames, which were considered too gaudy by the painters of that period.
A few small, barely visible areas where the ceruse is missing, possibly original.
Overall dimensions: 69 cm x 50 cm.
Inner dimensions: 50.50 cm x 40.50 cm.
Total width of the frame with the bleached wood mat: 12 cm.
Shipping cost within France via Colissimo Registered Mail with insurance and excellent packaging: €40.
