Engraved Bronze Pilgrimage Cross, Spain, 18th Century

Artist: Art Religieux
Antique Caravaca cross from cast and engraved bronze, double-sided with inscriptions, a fine example of craftsmanship and an authentic patina.
Double-sided: Obverse: Christ on cross in relief, with a characteristic double crossbar, skull on foot; Reverse: engraved Latin sacred inscriptions.
A Christian devotional object, probably worn as pendant or associated with a pilgrimage (Caravaca de la Cruz, Spain), typical of popular religious objects 18th century.
In 18th century, this type of cross was widely distributed throughout Catholic Europe.
It is not rare, but this example is exceptional.
Good condition, with visible wear; cross has been worn, but inscriptions on both sides remain clear and legible. Patina is superb.
