4 original etchings from Alexandria, proofs corrected with variations in the tones of the engravings, hand written elements, and additions of the artists’ names. Dated 1815/1816. Edition on laid paper with “Ancient and Modern Egypt” watermark.

Evolution of the preparatory and/or corrective work for the edition of “the Description of Egypt or Collection of Observations and Research Conducted in Egypt During the French Expedition, Published by Order of His Majesty Emperor Napoleon the Great”.

The set includes 4 identical plates of Alexandria with variations:
- 1 undescribed etching: plate 341 or 39, vol. V (autograph),
- 1 etching with autograph location notes and mention of theartists: Balzac, Jomard, Protain: plate 341, A*,
- 1 etching with autograph title added
- 1 etching printed with title, location, details, and authors:plate 35, A* - volume V dated 10/18/1816.

Work likely created by one of the members ofthe expedition: civil engineer, architect, artist...

Fading, creases, and slight paper cuts. In fine presentation condition.
