Pair Of 17th-century Lombard Fratine Chairs
Pair of chairs known as “Fratine Lombarde,” 17th century. Solid walnut chairs with a high backrest composed of transverse slats with smooth panels, decorated with carvings, a motif repeated on the front crossbar and the belt. The "fratina" is a chair designed and popularized primarily in Tuscany at the beginning of the 17th century as a variation of the common 16th-century chair. In 17th-century Lombardy as well, particularly in the Bergamo and Brescia areas, production of this type of chair was abundant and generally demonstrated a taste for and skill in inlay carving.
Our chairs are Lombard, entirely authentic 17th-century pieces with their original patina; they are sold as found: there are reinforcements on the frame and old restorations.
