Gilded Wood Sofa

We are pleased to present this magnificent gilded wood sofa

This exquisitely crafted piece of furniture perfectly illustrates the refinement of the Louis XV style with its graceful lines and delicate carving. The woods, entirely gilded, are adorned with rocailles motifs, stylized flowers and foliage running along the waistband, crosspieces and cambered legs. The carvings are edgy and elegant, testifying to meticulous cabinetmaking. The backrests are curved and enveloping for optimum comfort, ending in a central summit sculpture.

The Upholstery:

The whole is covered in a sumptuous cream (or ivory) silk damask fabric. The damask pattern, typical of the 18th century, features tone-on-tone floral and plant compositions that play with the light, bringing undeniable brilliance and sophistication to the furniture. The fabric appears to be in good overall condition, with silky highlights that magnify the gilding. The upholstery is firm and the tapestry has been made in the traditional way
