Roger Capron (1922-2006) was a French ceramist trained at the Ecole des Arts appliqués in Paris. He moved to Vallauris in 1946 and founded Atelier Callis with Robert Picault where, joined by jean Derval, they produced decorative and utilitarian ceramic pieces. In 1952, he bought the Poterie du Font des Horts and opened a small workshop where he began to develop a small production of shaped pieces (bottles, vases, bowls, etc.). That same year, he took part in his first exhibition at the Salon des métiers d'art in Paris. In just a few years, his workshop grew in size, his creations diversified (tiles for architecture, decorative panels, tables, etc.) and his international success continued to grow, notably through exhibitions in Milan, Cologne, London, Brussels, etc., where Capron received numerous awards. Orders for decorative programs for hotels, railway stations and stores also multiplied throughout France. In 1982, he sold his designs, patents and name to his collaborator Jean-Michel Carré, while continuing to pursue his business. Throughout his career, he distinguished himself with pieces in a refined style featuring geometric or nature-inspired decoration.
