Portrait Of A Woman By The Russian Painter Paul Mak Circa 1946

Artist: Paul Mak
Paul Mak died in Brussels on June 22. Russian emigration has lost not only an eminent and unique artist, but also an ardent patriot and hero, as he was disabled in the 1914-1917 war. His name, as an artist and as a man, will certainly take its place in the "Golden Book of Russian Emigration", and will not be forgotten by the free Russia of tomorrow.Paul Mak, from his Russian name Pavel Ivanov, worked as a cartoonist in Moscow and St. Petersburg from 1911 to 1914. In 1913, he exhibited a series of portraits at the Lemercier Gallery in Moscow, and in 1913 worked as a set designer at the Mamotov miniature theater. 1921, after a military career, he left Russia after being arrested by the Chekists. He left for Teheran via Ukraine and Turkistan, where he studied miniature technique and became an Iranian national. In 1932, he moved to Paris and in 1938 settled in Belgium.
