Pair Of Scroll Vases - Emaux De Longwy
A pair of late 19th-century earthenware cylinder-shaped vases known as "vases rouleaux" from the famous Émaux de Longwy factory (precisely dated 1894 thanks to the trademark under the base).
Decor and polychromy: This pair is distinguished by a delicate asymmetrical floral decoration of Japanese inspiration, very much in vogue at the end of the 19th century. On an elegant, finely crackled ivory background, superb sinuous flowering branches unfurl, hand-painted in light relief using the Manufacture's own cerné technique. The chromatic palette declines rich cobalt blue, leaf green, saffron yellow and orange enamels, offering a luminous contrast of great freshness.
Bronze mounting: each vase benefits from a sumptuous, fine original gilded bronze mounting
An openwork collar with chased frieze motifs and a large gadrooned base in moving relief, resting on small stylized foliate feet.
