Jean-pierre Blanche Guyotville Beach, 1957

Artist: Jean-pierre Blanche (1927-2022)
Jean-Pierre BLANCHE(1927-2022) La plage de Guyotville en Algérie, 1957, gouache, 25 x 33 cm, located in Guyotville, dated 57 and signed lower right.
Dimensions framed 41 x 48 cm.

Before Provence, his field of experimentation was Algeria, where, winner of the Abd-el-Tif prize in 1955, he stayed for two years when he wasn't even thirty.
He discovered the Maghreb, Algiers, Oran and Bône, and was fascinated by the Sahara. The landscapes - more rarely the portraits - he brought back are astonishingly diverse, reflecting the multiple research of an artist with no constraints.
Sometimes treated in a distinctly "fauve" vein, they can just as easily display a cameo of muted ochres and blues, a far cry from the dazzlement experienced by so many painters discovering the Maghreb, from Delacroix to Matisse via Chassériau.
In recent years, his works have been exhibited at the Musée Estrine in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the Musée Fabre in Montpellier and the Musée Regards de Provence in Marseille in 2024.
