Fernand Laval arrived in Paris in 1912 where he befriended Maurice Utrillo and roamed the streets of Montmartre with his easel. In 1913 he married Rachel Cohenet, and in 1920 he made his first appearance at the Salon d'Automne, where he presented a painting entitled ''De Montmartre aux Halles''.
He also worked abroad, notably in the Netherlands, painting numerous windmills in the years 1927-28, and he traveled to Belgium, where he painted the port of Antwerp.
In 1963, as a tribute to Renoir, he painted RENOIR's house "La Collette" in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
His favorite subjects will always remain the heart of Paris, Montmartre, including the Sacré-Coeur, the suburbs of Paris, the old fortifications and the Canal St Martin.
His latest works are in dark tones of browns, earths and blacks.
