Viennese Secession-style Table Mirror In Solid Silver 800 Thousandths, Germany C. 1905
Viennese Secession-style solid silver 800 thousandths table mirror, Germany circa 1905-1915
Description
Elegant table mirror made in Germany circa 1905-1915 in a style strongly inspired by the Viennese Secession, whose clean geometric lines, balance of proportions and decorative sobriety are characteristic of the early XXᵉ century Central European decorative arts.
The setting is made entirely of solid 800 thousandths silver. It bears the German title hallmarks as well as an Austrian import hallmark used between 1901 and 1921, attesting to its control and placement on the Austrian market at the beginning of the XXᵉ century.
The design is distinguished by the use of a silver plate.
The design is distinguished by a rigorous, elegant architecture where smooth surfaces and vertical lines dominate the composition. The lower part is enriched with a stylized geometric motif centered by an engraved monogram, in a decorative vocabulary particularly close to the creations of the Viennese Secession and the German geometric Jugendstil.
The original mirror is made from a single piece of glass.
The original mirror is fully beveled, bringing depth and refinement to the ensemble. The craftsmanship is remarkable, as evidenced by the large amount of silver used to make the frame. The frame was completely disassembled in order to precisely determine its weight, which reached 790 grams of solid silver.
The reverse is equipped with a bevelled bezel.
The reverse side is fitted with a solid silver-plated bronze base, mounted on a rack allowing six different tilt positions. This system ensures perfect stability while offering precise adjustment of the mirror's angle according to the desired use.
From the purity of the silver-plated bronze, the mirror is equipped with a solid silver-plated bronze base mounted on a rack allowing six different tilt positions.
By the purity of its lines, the quality of its materials and its generous dimensions, this mirror is a remarkable testimony to the modernist taste that developed in Central Europe at the beginning of the XXᵉ century.
