Charming portrait of a young woman reading a letter with a delighted air, a recently wrapped bouquet of flowers is placed on the table and she sketches a slight smile, obviously this is pleasant news and happiness is just around the corner!
The Salon catalog reads:Suzanne Busmey born in Paris, a pupil of Messrs. Henri Royer, Marcel Baschet and Paul Thomas and living in Créteil, la Feuillée, rue Henry.She exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1909 and 1912, each time a pastel portrait including "Portrait de Mlle S. D." (N° 2131) in 1912, which could be the large portrait shown here in the ad, dated 1910, but she may have exhibited it two years later.Large pastel on paper (in 2 sheets, visble separation in the middle, photo 7) 129 x 96 cm.Large solid oak and gilded stucco frame 172 x 138 x 7 cm, very fine quality workmanship, custom-made and original for the pastel.
