These miniatures were very common for small collector's paintings or travel souvenirs in the 18th century. This style of composition, featuring ancient ruins, figures and moonlight, is typical of the Italianate landscapes of the 17th and 18th centuries. We can relate to Claude Lorrain, but also to small Flemish masters who produced miniatures for collectors.
