Lovely bronze "Nymph" sculpture, E. Laurent, 19th century.
This is a very fine original antique bronze sculpture by Eugène Laurent, entitled "Psyché", executed in bronze and showing only a fine surface patina. She is depicted as a kneeling young girl, whose dress slides down her knees and legs in neat, intricate folds. Her arms are crossed against her bent knee. In her hand hangs an oil lamp, which her fingers, perfectly rendered and highly detailed, effortlessly hold. Her hair is pulled back and up, surrounded by a fine net. His name is engraved in Greek on the front.
Signed by Eugène Laurent (1832-1898) and marked with a Paris foundry hallmark.
