James Pradier Chloris
Jean Jacques PRADIER, known as James PRADIER (1790-1852), Chloris, a gilt bronze statuette (wear to the gilding), signed on the base J PRADIER, with the founder's signature Salvatore MARCHI on the back of the base. Chloris, in Greek mythology, is a nymph of flowers and plants from the Fortunate Isles (now the Canary Islands). James Pradier sculpted Chloris caressed by Zephyr in 1849; the statue is now in the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse. A very romantic subject. He is the most renowned sculptor of the reign of Louis-Philippe.
