Watercolor M.markovitch

Artist: Markovitch
PARIS, LE PONT-NEUF - Original watercolor by Nicolas Markovitch, 1925
Nicolas Markovitch (1894-1964) was a Serbian-French watercolorist considered one of the finest watercolorists of his time (Lecharmedesviolettes) , best known for his architectural paintings of urban buildings, cathedrals and monuments. (RoGallery)
A striking view taken from the Pont-Neuf apron, with the equestrian statue of Henri IV in the background and the Seine bustling with washboats. The composition skilfully plays on the contrast between the massive stones of the bridge in the foreground and the wispy lightness of the Parisian sky - a timeless Paris, masterfully captured.
Markovitch illustrated in watercolor several works published by Éditions Alpina (Paris) from the late 1920s to the early 1940s (RoGallery), including volumes devoted to Paris and major European cities - making his Parisian watercolors particularly sought-after.
Signed, titled Paris - Pont-Neuf and dated 1925 lower right.
