Large drawing based on a study by Michelangelo for the prophet Isaiah. Brown ink on tracing paper, very vigorous treatment, broad strokes, beautiful rendering of shadows in the folds of the prophet's garment. The child's silhouette is particularly well executed. The ink used is probably iron gall ink, hence the cracks on the right-hand side of the drawing, where the strokes are more pronounced.
The drawing is mounted on a thin cardboard backing. It dates from the early 19th century, France.
