Pedestal Table Stamped Canabas ( 1731 - 1797 ) 18th Century
Elegant freshening pedestal table, stamped CANABAS, made of speckled mahogany and solid mahogany, resting on four slightly arched tapered legs finished with bronze sabots , 18th century .
The top girdle adopts a particularly refined movement shape, incorporating a circular compartment designed to hold a zinc-lined metal refreshment bucket, still present.
The recessed white marble main top is encircled by a finely chased gilded brass openwork gallery, repeated on the two kidney-shaped lower trays.
The cabinetry is of the highest quality, with a speckled mahogany veneer featuring rich, shimmering veining typical of late 18th-century Parisian production. The middle and lower shelves offer generous spaces for display or service.
CANABAS stamped below the belt.
Jean-François Canabas (circa 1731-1797), a master cabinetmaker received in Paris in 1766, is renowned for the finesse of his neoclassical furniture produced for an aristocratic clientele during the reigns of Louis XVI and the Directoire.
Very good condition, with light patina consistent with age.
Original brass brackets.
