Auguste Aizelin (1821-1902) - Couple Of Shepherds
French bronze with brown patina
Height: 60 cm
Elegant bronze sculpture by French sculptor Auguste Aizelin, depicting an idealized shepherd couple in a spirit inspired by classical antiquity.
The delicate interplay between the two figures, the flowing drapery and the finesse of the modeling bear witness to the academic elegance of 19th-century French sculpture. The composition exudes great gentleness and remarkable harmony, sublimated by a rich brown patina.
Bronze signed, resting on a base with Ionic column decoration.
Auguste Aizelin was a pupil of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between 1852 and 1897. He was named chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1867 and won a gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
