Elegantpair of Regency period two-light sconces in finely chasedand gilded bronze, with two light arms, adorned with a rich décor ofand figures of children draped in antique style,


These twochildren hold a torch in each hand. One isdressed in a tunic with a strong drapery movement, representative ofof ancient art, the other, with a bare torso, is dressed simply with adraped at the waist. The lower part of their bodies is transformed bya splendid, finely chiseled bouquet of foliage in bloom.


In theirhand are majestic torches, winding around their waists and snakingand snaking skywards, decorated with acanthus leaves in volutesscrolls, distinguished by their elegance of movement and the finechasing.

The bobèchesare decorated with a large, open flower with drooping petalsunderneath. They are surmounted by small binnaclesdecorated with a chased flower bud at the base.


Thissculptural, almost theatrical design is typical of the bestcharacteristic of the best Parisian models of the mid-18thcentury.

This pairof sconces is very interesting for its finely worked, antiquefinely worked, a model that can be attributed to Charles CressentCharles Cressent, one of the world's greatest cabinetmaker-bronzierornamentation, but also for the harmony of the asymmetricalasymmetrical arms, and above all by their height of 54 cm, whichgives them a larger dimension than many sconces of theof the Regency period.

CharlesCressent (1685-1768) received his maitre sculpteur in 1714, sculptorspecializing in art bronze in 1719, he became cabinetmaker to thecabinetmaker to the Regent, the Duc d'Orléans, and in the process becameone of the most renowned cabinet-makers of his time, craftingrocaille bronze ornamentation, much appreciated by the aristocracy.aristocracy.
