17th Century Tric-trac And Chess Set.
Playing is an activity that transcends social class in ancien régime society, from the most elegant salon to the smokiest tavern, we tap cardboard, rattle pucks, concentrate on chess pieces.
This large box is part of this effervescence, consisting of a blackened wood box, but veneered with ebony and light wood, for the chess board and inside on the tric-trac set.
It is sold with its period pucks of the same species ( ebony and unidentified well dense light wood) .on the perimeter, holes for candlesticks and for counting the points as it should be in the XVIIIE century.
It is in used condition, small accidents ( incomplete veneer closing hooks)which show heavy use.
To play it, you'll need a leather (or horn) cornet and bone dice
If you go to the cabinetmaker, you'll certainly find it more precious, but the old ebony has a beautiful sheen as it is.
