Louis XVI Period Daybed
Resting bed in richly carved and lacquered wood resting on four tapered, fluted and filleted legs, finished in a rounded shape. The uprights of the side backrests feature spiral fluting overhung by a Doric capital topped with a pomegranate. Friezes of pearls, water leaves and laurel tori embellished with knots enliven the decor. Acanthus leaves at the bottom of the uprights and florets at the connecting dice accentuate the furniture's vegetal ornamentation.
The daybed was all the rage at a time when comfort was taking on greater importance in everyday life in the second half of the 18th century. As its name suggests, it was used to rest during the day, allowing ladies to receive their guests lying down.
Our daybed is carved on all sides.
Louis XVI period daybed in the taste of George Jacob (1739-1814) and close to the work of Pierre-Éloi Langlois (1738 - 1805).
