1905 London Sterling Silver Pierced Serving Bowl Johnson Walker & Tolhurst
Antique Edwardian serving bowl, hallmarked in London in 1905, is constructed from solid sterling silver. The piece was manufactured by the silversmithing firm Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst Ltd and features a shaped oval form with an intricate, reticulated rim. The decorative program consists of pierced scrolling foliate and floral ornamentation that follows the undulating contour of the edge. The basin of the bowl is finished with a smooth, polished center that contrasts with the textured, openwork border. The interior of the rim bears a complete set of British hallmarks, including the "J & JM Ld" maker's mark, the lion passant for sterling purity, the leopard's head town mark for London, and the lowercase "k" date letter for 1905. The silver surfaces exhibit a uniform metallic luster with a natural aged patina and minor surface scratches consistent with an item produced during the early 20th century. It is supported by four cast and applied feet that incorporate scrolling motifs matching the design of the gallery.Approximate Dimensions & Weight:H: 8 x W: 28 x D: 21 cm 465 grams
